Quantitative and Qualitative Trait Mapping

Traits that are very important but are difficult to select by phenotype can be mapped with our proprietary QTL Marks™ mapping service. We help you select desired traits at the molecular level so you can develop a higher number of superior varieties in a shorter time period while protecting your unique, superior traits.

Through our QTL Mark™s service, STA Genetic Services has identified markers that span a plants genome. When analyzed on a segregating population and with appropriate phenotypic data genomic regions can be identified which contribute to a specific phenotype. The phenotype or trait could be a quantitative trait—Quantitative Trait Mapping (QTLs)—for which many genes contribute to the phenotype, or a qualitative trait resulting from one or two major genes.

STA Genomics works closely with you to determine the best population type to work with, number of individuals to test, number of markers to apply, and other unique aspects of your breeding program to help ensure you accomplish your program goals.
